On behalf of our President, Sheriff Tony Mancuso, our elected officers, our Executive Board, our member sheriffs and the staff of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association, we are extremely saddened by the loss of our esteemed colleague Union Parish Sheriff Robert G. “Bob” Buckley.

Bob was a “true friend” to every sheriff and to the entire criminal justice community.  A seven term sheriff and a 22 year veteran of the Louisiana State Police, Bob was known for his keen intellect; his ability to find humor in all situations and his compassion for all.

Bob not only left his mark on Union Parish but in every corner of our great state.

Sheriff Buckley served on the Executive Board of the Sheriffs’ Association and held each of the elected offices culminating in his tenure as President from 2012-2013.  He will be remembered in that capacity for his eloquence, his ability to get things done and his statesmanship.

Sheriff Buckley constantly tried to improve his chosen profession, law enforcement.  It is important to state that when anyone walked into the sheriff’s office in Union Parish the sign over the entrance reads “Through these doors pass the finest law enforcement officers on earth.”  We assert that the sign which was placed by Sheriff Buckley to bolster the morale of his officers was really a tribute to his leadership and his service to the Parish of Union and the State of Louisiana.
